da Eira ABSTRACT This is a first report of the false truffle (Diehliomyces microsporus) on the culinary-medicinal mushroom Agaricus brasiliensis cultured in the states of Sao Paulo and Parana, Brazil. To evaluate the severity of the disease in terms of yield and quality of A. brasiliensis, we conducted a fivefold experiment with 5 treatments in a completely randomized design: T1, a control consisting of A. brasiliensis cultivation on healthy compost (without D. microsporus inoculation); T2, D. microsporus inoculation in the compost prepasteurization (80°C/4 h); T3, D. microsporus inoculation in the compost postpasteurization; T4, D. microsporus inoculation in the casing layer (black peat) prepasteurization; T5, D. microsporus inoculation in the casing layer postpasteurization. We used a concentration of approximately 6.2 ґ 108 spores/mL as the inoculum of D. microsporus. The mushrooms were harvested before the rupture of the veil, determining thereafter the yield and the biological efficiency (BE). We concluded that D. microsporus ignificantly reduced the BE by about 90%. When the compost is submitted to a second pasteurization at 80°C/4 h, the yield is higher than when it is not pasteurized and lower than when it is pasteurized at 62°C/4 h. D. microsporus does not act as a pathogen in A. brasiliensis fruiting bodies.
