Savchenko ABSTRACT The volumetric drag coefficients of slender cones are calculated for supercavitational flow patterns. The cavity is assumed as a part of useful volume and is determined with the first approximation equation. The analytical formulae for the volumetric coefficients of frictional drag and the pressure distribution are presented. The extreme cases of long and short cavities are considered. The comparison of the results with the drag coefficients of slender axisymmetric bodies in an unseparated flow shows that at cavitation numbers less than 0.001 the supercavitational regime of the flow offers few advantages, however for large values of the cavitation number the difference in drag may become small. A case of short cavities is unacceptable for drag minimization.
