Uchida ABSTRACT Many studies have described the symptoms and clinical examinations of lumbar spinal instability. However, no consensus has been reached because of the ambiguous definition of lumbar spinal instability and its judgment criteria. In this article, symptoms and clinical examination findings that may be useful for the assessment of lumbar spinal instability are first described. Our previous study results on symptoms are then presented, followed by the sensitivity and specificity of clinical examinations, with respective illustrations of the test methods.
