  • Modified Constraint-Induced Therapy for Hemiparesis: A Review
  • Stephen J. Page, Ph.D.
Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, 202 Goodman Drive, Suite 275, Cincinnati, OH 45267

    ABSTRACT

Recent randomized controlled studies suggest that a new, reimbursable, outpatient technique—"modified constraint-induced therapy" (mCIT)—improves use and function of the more affected upper limb in subacute and chronic stroke, as well as chronic TBI. Moreover, mCIT is solidly grounded in motor learning principles and is clinically practical and safe. The purpose of this review is to discuss theory and evidence supporting mCIT, and applications of mCIT, in acquired brain injury-induced hemiparesis.
