The list of diatoms of Azerbaijan includes 368 species represented by 408 infraspecific taxa (including nomenclatural types of species). Of those taxa, 6 species are reported for the first time for the republic (Brachysira vitrea, Karayevia clevei, Navicula phyllepta, Placoneis gastrum, Staurosirella leptostauron, Surirella brebissonii), and 3 taxa are first reported for the whole Caucasian region (Sellaphora laevissima, Synedra ulna var. spatulifera, Achnanthes triconfusa). All major changes in taxonomy and nomenclature of the group up to the end of the 20^th century are incorporated in the list. A brief overview of distribution patterns of species in various physiographic regions of the republic is presented.
