Data on diversity of green algae in aquatic and terrestrial habitats of the continental part of Israel are generalized. Israeli chlorophytes belong to 6 classes, 127 genera, and 347 species (364 infraspecific taxa). Six genera and 11 species (13 infraspecific taxa) are first reported for Israel. A generalized classification system of Chlorophyta is proposed.
