The record of remains of the brown alga Cystoseira partschii Sternb. in the Lower Sarmatian deposits of the Transcarpathian Region (Ukraine)

ABSTRACT

A morphological description of the fossil marine species Cystoseira partschii Sternb. (Phaeophyta) is provided. Well-preserved remains were found in the Lower Sarmatian deposits of the Transcarpathian region of Ukraine. To establish phylogenetic relationships and to reconstruct general trends of evolution of the plant cover of the Earth, the results are compared with data on fossil and recent species of the same taxonomic group.
