Epiphytie and epilithic diatoms of the Surgu Reservoir were investigated in April 1997-March 1998. Epiphytic and epilithic diatoms in the reservoir were generally similar. In 76 diatom toxa were recorded in the Surgu Reservoir. Cymbella afflnis Kutz., Navicula cryptocephala Kutz., N. cryptocephala var. veneta (Kutz.) Qrun., N. gracilis Ehr. and Synedra ulna (Nitzsch) Her. were the most common diatoms in these two habitats. It was concluded that although some diatom species were more abundant in one habitat than in the other, the species composition of the epiphytic and epilithic diatoms in this reservoir was not significantly different.
