Tkachenko ABSTRACT Ecological variability of amino acid composition in proteins of some Black Sea macrophytes was studied. It has been shown that in highly contaminated areas (seaports), the amounts of self-regulating amino acids (alanine, glutamic, arginine, leucine and proline) were higher than that in less contaminated sea areas. It was ascertained that the level of contamination affects biological value of algal protein (mainly lowering it). This is probably one of the reasons for reduction in biodiversity and productivity of sea biocenoses.
