    ABSTRACT

Data on green flagellate algae (Phytomonadina) of water bodies and soils of Left-Bank Polessie (LBP) of the Ukraine are complemented and generalized. Phytomonadina of this region are represented by 62 species of 64 infraspecific taxa, which belong to one class (Chlorophyceae), three orders, eight families, and 18 genera of the division Chlorophyta. The taxa prevailing in terms of the number of species are from the order Chlamydomonadales (83.9% of the total number of species of green flagellates), family Chlamydomonadaceae (75.9%), and genus Chlamydomonas Ehrenb. (53.3%). An annotated taxonomic list of 19 species of Phytomonadina, discovered by the authors, in water bodies of LBP from 1997 to 2004 is provided; the list is accompanied with original illustrations. Specific names are accompanied by nomenclatural citations and references, information about morphological peculiarities, features of local populations, localities, collection sites, data on distribution patterns of the taxa in the Ukraine, and their general distribution. Twelve species are new for the LBP flora; six species are reported for the first time for the Ukrainian Polessie (forest zone), and three of them are new for the flora of the Ukraine. One species (Phyllariochloris tenuis Massjuk et Lilits. sp. nov.) is described as new for science, one species is reported as Chlamydomonas sp. (with description and illustrations). New localities are reported for other species. A strategy for further studies of flagellate algae in the flora of the Ukraine is discussed.
