    ABSTRACT

It has been found that phenol oxy-acids are of considerable importance in allelopathic interaction between higher aquatic plants and algae. Macrophytes are capable of producing a larger amount of these compounds than are algae. At phenol acid concentration in water of 0.5 mg/L, these exornetabolites inhibit the development of representatives of Cyanophyta and stimulate the development of representatives of Chlorophyta and Bacillariophyta. Inhibition of the development of Chlorophyta and Bacillariophyta is registered at a higher concentration of phenols.
