COMPUTATIONAL RADIATION USING THE FINITE-VOLUME METHOD
George D. Raithby
Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering, University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Canada N2L 3G1
ABSTRACT
The finite volume method is described for predicting radiant exchange in enclosures with media that absorb, emit, and scatter. This method shares the strong conservation properties with the finite volume methods used to compute fluid flow and convective heat transfer. Besides describing the method, this paper presents applications to several problems, and then answers several questions that are often asked of this method.
