  • Energonics beyond Thermodynamics

    ABSTRACT

A new domain "in the making" is presented, namely Energonics meaning energy in action. At present, Energonics contains five principles related to the energy concept, and four laws, also based upon the energy concept. Unlike classical thermodynamics, energonics takes into account the duration as well as the rate of a process, while also considering the behavior of the matter involved in the process.
Alongside with the study of energy and the analysis of energy transformation, also to be found in thermodynamics, energonics uses the state function energy and the associated functionals heat and work to solve numerous problems (e.g. the superposition of effects in the loading of materials with non-linear behavior, considering the rate of loading and the effect of lapse of time; the equivalence of processes and phenomena; the coexistence and complementarity of order or disorder; process efficiency considering the invariance of response expressed by the principle of material indifference). Energonics is not against Thermodynamics but addresses areas beyond Thermodynamics. Energonics, I assume, will allow systematisations and generalisations in science that are so necessary as a result of the accumulation of an impressive amount of knowledge and scientific data, most of them of a highly particular nature.
It is quite possible that Energonics might represent the "starting point" for that road that might lead us, step by step, to the establishment of a "generalized science" that will allow quantitative as well as qualitative knowledge, above today's contemporary sciences.
