HEAT TRANSFER IN VORTICALLY ENHANCED MIXING OF VAPORIZING DROPLET SPRAYS

ABSTRACT
A discussion of a methodology for the study of heat transfer in the vortically enhanced mixing of heating and vaporizing sprays is provided. A brief description of work in related areas, particularly vortical mixing of inert particles and droplet vaporization theories, is provided. The fluid mechanics of vortical mixing and its implications for the efficient entrainment and vaporization of droplets, and the mixing of the vaporized species in some idealized configurations, are described with the use of streamlines and particle paths. Recent droplet vaporization models are discussed, and the numerical shortcomings of current gas-liquid coupling models are addressed. Some discussion on the distinction between dense and dilute sprays, the current status of gas-phase coupling, and the importance of radiation heat transfer in some applications are given.
