    ABSTRACT

    A fully experimental approach for heat transfer in subcooled jet impingement boiling is presented. Very high heat fluxes can be observed in the stagnation region of the impinging planar jet on a hot rotating cylinder. This study is justified by the need for controlling the thermal path of the flat steel products; let us recall that the rate of cooling is responsible for the final mechanical properties of steel. An idealized approach of this situation is carried out through an original experimental device. The heat fluxes extracted by jet cooling are deduced from the coupling of temperature measurements and of an inverse heat conduction method. Local transient boiling curves are obtained for various conditions.
