    ABSTRACT

Numerical simulations are performed for gas resonance oscillations in a tube using the lattice Boltzmann method. The oscillating flow of the gas is generated by a piston at one end, and reflected by the other closed end. Both isothermal and adiabatic wall boundaries are considered in this work. From the simulation results, shock waves with resonance frequency are numerically captured clearly. The time dependent velocity, density, pressure and temperature at various locations of the tube for various frequencies and wall boundary conditions are presented. The gas flow and heat transfer characteristics obtained are consistent with those from previous theoretical analyses and simulations using conventional numerical methods.
