ABSTRACT

In this study, modified similarity solutions for velocity and temperature distributions of a microchannel heat sink subject to an impinging jet are presented. For this, the microchannel heat sink was modelled as a fluid-saturated porous medium and a similarity transformation was employed. The Brinkman-extended Darcy equation for fluid flow and two-equation model for heat transfer were used as governing equations. An analytic method for determining the permeability and the interstitial heat transfer coefficient is also presented. Velocity and temperature distributions obtained from the modified similarity solutions were compared with numerical simulations. The modified similarity solutions presented in this work provide accurate predictions of the velocity and temperature distributions obtained numerically. Finally, the similarity solutions were used to investigate the effects of inlet velocity and porosity on the fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics of the microchannel heat sink subject to an impinging jet.
