    ABSTRACT

The surface tracking methodology in the classic Free Surface Volume of Fluids (VOF) method is a pure geometrical tracking method, which may result in mass imbalance when the Piecewise Linear Interface Construction (PLIC) scheme is employed to calculate the fluxes on unstructured mesh. This mass imbalance is a vital factor to make the solution divergent in VOF and heat transfer modeling. A new method, enthalpy complementation method, is proposed in this paper to resolve this problem, in which the enthalpy gain/loss due to mass imbalance is complemented in the energy equation. By this way, the solution is very stable and convergence history is much better. Several cases are tested and results show that the proposed method works perfectly.
