    ABSTRACT

Characteristics of turbulent boundary-layer flows with adverse pressure gradients (APG) differ significantly from those of canonical boundary layers. In this paper, we investigated the effects of APG on the large-scale turbulent structures and heat transfer mechanism in a turbulent boundary layer developing on a uniformly heated plate. The spatio-temporal structures educed from multipoint simultaneous measurements are presented and discussed based on the results of quadrant splitting analysis. In the near-wall region, the higher temperature region mainly associates with lower momentum fluid motion; on the other hand, the lower temperature region frequently intrudes into the near-wall region with higher momentum. Then, both fluid motions contribute largely to the heat transfer in the APG boundary layer.
