    ABSTRACT

    Turbulence convective heat transfer in a micro can combustor is investigated by means of Large Eddy Simulation (LES). The combustor to which attention is paid has a baffle plate with holes for oxidant injection and fuel injection and study is made for three cases of different baffle plate configurations. From the result, it is confirmed that turbulent heat transfer is promoted by the interaction between the jets and large vortical flow regions generated between the jets and wall. This is effective to accelerate the mixing between hot and cold fluids which is slow suffering from low Reynolds number in a micro combustor. In particular, the large flow recirculation region formed between the oxidant jet and the combustor wall plays an important role on wall heat transfer. Discussion is made for the characteristics of turbulent thermal fields and the time and space averaged wall Nusselt number which show peculiar characteristics corresponding to the structures of vortical flow different for each baffle plate shape.
