    ABSTRACT

    An experimental investigation has been carried out on the turbulent heat transfer in a separated and reattached flow over a blunt flat plate. Main objective of the present study is to clarify the three-dimensional turbulent heat transfer mechanism in the separated, reattached and redeveloping flow regions. The experiments were conducted in a low speed wind tunnel for a Reynolds number Re=5800. Three components of the mean and turbulent fluctuating velocities were measured along with the mean and turbulent fluctuating temperatures in a three-dimensional flow field. The conditional sampling techniques were employed in order to investigate the large scale vortex structure and its correlation with the turbulent heat transfer characteristics. It is clarified that the large scale vortex exhibits the hairpin-like three-dimensional structure and its structural model is proposed. The spanwise scale and the streamwise one of its central part are about 2.7H and 4.0H, respectively, as connecting to the vortical feet. Further, a model is proposed to correlate the three-dimensional vortex structure with the turbulent heat transfer features.
