ABSTRACT There is a growing interest on solid sponges because of its advantageous properties for industrial applications. In this contribution, initially a review about experimental and theoretical studies existing in literature is given. The second part contains a re-evaluation of literature data from Decker et al. (2002) and shows the potential applicability of the Lévêque analogy for heat and mass transfer in solid sponges. A brief outlook on future investigations is given at the end.
