    ABSTRACT

An experimental and numerical study is conducted on the flow characteristics and heat transfer of Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids in concentric and eccentric annulus with rotation of the inner cylinder. The effect of the eccentricity and the rotation of the inner cylinder on the heat transfer and pressure loss in annular flow field are investigated. The effect of rotation of the inner cylinder on the pressure loss is largest in water and it becomes weak in 0.2% CMC and 5% bentonite solutions. The effect of eccentricity, ε = 0.2 and rotation of the inner cylinder on the heat transfer in annulus is not prevalent compared with flow field. But in the case of the eccentricity of 0.7, temperature profile of 5% bentonite solution shows the effect of the eccentricity and rotation. The rotation of the inner cylinder transfers the momentum and heat energy to the outer side of the annulus and the unheated area around the inner cylinder is increased.
