As an answer to the strong need for research in transient conjugate heat transfer in the aeronautical sector, an innovative coupling method has been developed. It consists in coupling a fluid solver with a heat diffusion solver according to a methodology allowing both conservativity (that significantly improves unsteady accuracy) and efficiency. Following the development of this numerical method, a set of validation experiments has been carried out and will be described. Whereas steady studies are numerous, very few unsteady conjugate heat transfer experiments have been led. Therefore, ONERA has developed a set of cases based on standard jet engine configurations. One of these experiments, representing the air cooling of a heated carter, will be presented in this paper. It involves unsteady jets in a 5m/s crossflow in strong interaction with a thick flat plate heated on the rear side. The requirements (realization of jets, choice of the material for the flat plate, choice of the PIV, LDV and infrared thermography measurements) for a proper validation of the numerical work will be detailed.
