    ABSTRACT

    A detailed numerical study is carried out to investigate conjugate heat transfer in a horizontal channel with a heated section and surface motion. A two-dimensional numerical model, which accounts for variable conductivity, surface motion, and conjugate heat transfer between the gas and susceptor, is developed and validated. The governing equations are the continuity, momentum and energy equations with low Reynolds number k − ω turbulence model.
    The results show that the present continuous system is characterized by two newly defined parameters: conductance ratio and susceptor parameter. Surface motion and conjugate heat transfer are demonstrated to significantly affect the surface temperature distribution and uniformity at susceptor surface. Increased thickness and susceptor thermal diffusivity alters the thermal energy distribution, thereby reducing the susceptor surface temperature. It has been confirmed by a reasonable good agreement between the predicted results and available data in the literature. This study provides fundamental insight into temperature control during the combined modes of heat transfer for various thermal manufacturing methods.
