    ABSTRACT

A numerical model of the synthesis of silicon carbide nanopowder by laser pyrolysis was developed. This model is implemented into the industrial CFD package ANSYS-CFX. We compared two sources reactive gas: SiH4/CH4 and SiH4/C2H4. The results show two behaviours of the temperature in the reactor. In addition, the kinetics of SiH4 decomposition and hydrocarbon reactions induce the delayed of the carbon formation compare of the silicon formation. As a result, we suspect that the mechanism of SiC formation passes through two-steps: formation of silicon particles and their carburization. These results agree with experimental investigations available in the literature.
