    ABSTRACT

We present an overview of the Telluride casting project, created and developed at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) for nuclear weapons manufacturing. Capabilities of the unstructured, F90, finite volume code include the simulation of electro-magnetic induction heating, radiation with view-factor calculation, incompressible, immiscible flow with Volume-of-Fluid (VOF) interface tracking, macro-scale heat transfer and phase change and small deformation thermo-mechanical modelling. To illustrate these capabilities we present a simulation of an entire plutonium casting process from mold inductive pre-heat through gravity pour, solidification and thermo-mechanical stress buildup until cool-down. Thermocouple traces are presented to compare experimental and simulation temperatures are various locations in the mold. Good agreement of the cooling histories is seen between experiment and simulation. LA-UR-06-0751.
