SURFACE RADIATIVE TRANSPORT AT LARGE SCALE VIA MONTE CARLO

ABSTRACT

This article addresses simulation via the Monte Carlo method of radiative transport in complex enclosures with sophisticated radiative surface material properties, but without a participating medium. The focus of the article is solubility at large scale, on advanced computer architectures, and with efficient algorithms. After a brief introduction, a theoretical formulation and geometrical aspects are reviewed. A new, sophisticated model for surface radiative material properties is then presented. Lagged Fibonacci pseudorandom number generators, which are very efficient and eminently parallelizable, are covered next. Factors affecting performance are reviewed in the following section. Quantitative models for performance on vector and parallel architectures are then covered, with particular attention to how the problem scales with number of processors. Visualization is covered subsequently, with a bent toward practical aspects. A brief summary concludes the article.
