ABSTRACT
Recent developments in numerical methods for one-dimensional and multidimensional analyses of radiative transfer in emitting-absorbing-scattering media are reviewed, with emphasis on multidimensional techniques. Among various methods being developed, special attention is focussed on the discretized intensity technique, the P-N method, the zone method, the spline collocation scheme, the discrete transfer method, and the hybrid Monte-Carlo matrix-inversion technique. Starting from the underlying principle of radiative transfer, to the present state of development, the current review examines each method and reveals its merits and limitations. Detailed working formulae of each method are provided in explicit forms for practical usage. Numerical solutions obtained by various methods are compared and discussed. The lack of a universal method for multidimensional radiative transfer is noted at the end.
