Abstract
Adaptive optical components for a phase Doppler system are described and their utility is illustrated through measurements in a spray drying process, a spray of submicron droplets and a spray with a narrow size distribution. The measurements of submicron droplets in an electrospray have provided new fundamental insights into the process of electrohydrodynamic atomization. The adaptive phase/Doppler velocimeter is also useful for recognition of droplet composition, in addition to its size and velocity
