Abstract

Presently, more than ever businesses are looking to become competitive through environmental improvements in their products and processes. This necessity, which arose due to a variety of pressures, such as government, non-government and consumer legislation or even from a new environmental consciousness, is conducting businesses to question about their productive processes and their technologies and adopt a new posture to face the environment questions. This item questions the former environmental thinking characterized by the end-of-pipe model, and describes how a metallurgical business is adopting a new form of action utilizing a methodology of Clean Production to improve their efficiency through simple solutions in their processes, reduce the generation of residues, identify new technologies less polluted and become more competitive in the market.
