Abstract

During the last years the interest in the potential hydrogen economy has increased. In particular in the sector of transport, the environmental legislation will become more stringent as well as the request of ultra clean, or zero emission, technologies. What this project paper examines is the potential synergy between hydrogen, from clean renewable sources, and the city. Since pollution of great metropolitan areas caused by vehicular traffic is one of the problems faced. The aim of this project paper is to determine if it is possible to satisfy powering requirements, of the vehicles in operation for the service to the city, with a city net of hydrogen production − storage - refueling stations from renewable sources on site. In this project paper the attention is focused in particular on the Rome postal service. The project paper estimates the possibility to supply the postal distribution with vehicles fed from hydrogen produced on site, through an analysis of the state of art, a research on postal service, a study about the fueling requirements of the fleet, a study on the hydrogen station, an estimate on stations distribution inside the city.
