MULTI-DISCIPLINARY FRAMEWORK FOR IPPD IN AERONAUTICAL INDUSTRY

Abstract

This paper addresses Integrated Product and Process design (IPPD) with the focus on U.S. Aeronautical industry. We focus specifically on the required framework for implementing "Integrated Product Development of Commercial Aircraft". The findings presented here are based on research carried out by the author and two graduate fellows (Graham and Thompson) for a three year NASA project which commenced in 1994. Our current results are presented "on-line" on Internet in the form of a tutorial on IPPD, available to anyone via the world-wide-web at http://www.calpoly.edu/~ime400pl/nasa/nasa.html/. Since this is an ongoing development, the material available via the world-wide-web will supersede the contents of this paper. This IPPD project is one of several tasks being undertaken by five universities (Cal Poly SLO, Brigham Young, Clemson, Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech) funded by a three year NASA funded initiative which seeks to address a number of areas related to a Multi-Disciplinary approach to Commercial Aircraft Development.
