ANALYSIS OF OVERALL ENERGY INTENSITY OF CHINESE STEEL INDUSTRY

Abstract

The energy conservation problem of Chinese steel industry was analyzed by the method of e-p analysis on the basis of statistical data in the period of 1980-1992. It was pointed out that process / steel ratios, especially iron / steel ratio, are too high. That is the major problem of energy saving in Chinese steel industry. Four principal measures for solving the problem were discussed 1. optimizing the process structure of steel industry, 2. improving the raw material of BOF process, 3. decreasing the fraction of cast iron production, and 4. increasing the fraction of continuous casting.
