HEAT AND MASS TRANSFER ON TEFLON COATED TUBES USED FOR LATENT HEAT RECOVERY

Abstract

The heat and mass transfer on bare stainless steel and Teflon-coated tube surfaces in a steam-air mixture flow were experimentally studied to obtain design data for a heat exchanger for use in latent heat recovery from flue gases. The Teflon coating degraded the overall heat transfer coefficient by 20% compared to the bare stainless steel tube. The heat transfer resistance of Teflon-coating is about 20 times higher than that of the bare stainless steel tube, and its quantity is similar with the resistance of inside heat transfer. The contact angle of condensate on Teflon coated surface is higher than bare stainless steel surface about 30%, which will be the reason of higher mass transfer coefficient of Teflon coated tube in high Reynolds number.
