Stratified Wavy Flow

Article: Stratified Gas-Liquid Flow
Topics: Interfaces, Multiphase flows
Under certain conditions the two phases in gas and liquid flow in a pipe are separated from each other by a continuous interface. At low gas velocity, the interface is smooth or may be rippled by small capillary waves of a few millimeter length. With increasing gas velocity, small amplitude regular waves appear.
