Abstrakt

Dispersing a scrubbing liquid by using a pneumatic atomizing system is not only advantagous for producing very fine droplet spray but also for an increase of the turbulence energy in the flow system. Therefore the separation efficiency associated with turbulent interactions of particles and droplets (turbulent diffusion) will be improved. In a "nozzle scrubber" the mean flow properties (r.m.s velocity, mean velocity and degree of turbulence) were measured in-situ by using laser Doppler velocimetry. The grade efficiency curves of the wet operated nozzle scrubber were obtained by an white light optical particle counter. By a new method for operating a conventional pneumatic atomizing nozzle grade efficiencies up to 90% could be achieved for particles smaller 1.0 µm..
