Abstrakt

In this paper we outline how an analytical assessment of the single-point sampling statistics of sprays can be made using ideal spray theory. We do this using a probabilistic approach: A true state of nature is assumed and sampling distributions drawn from that true state are obtained in order to describe the range of possible outcomes from an experiment. Results are presented for the sampling statistics of the overall particle count, the particle count associated with any bin of a joint size/velocity histogram, the overall histogram, and spray equivalent diameters derived from the moments of the spray distribution.
