An experiment on flow boiling heat transfer to water in a round tube was carried out, with emphasis on low heat flux and low mass flow rate conditions. Experimental data were compared with various existing empirical correlations, but satisfactory results were not obtained. A new empirical correlation of two-phase forced convective heat transfer in which nucleate boiling was absent, including the case of low heat flux, was presented. For a two-phase forced convection regime, an analogy between heat transfer and friction pressure drop was discussed. A fairly good agreement between our data and the prediction method by Beattie and Whalley (1982) was obtained.
