CHLOROFLUOROCARBONATED WASTE DESTRUCTION IN A PLASMA SPOUTED-BED REACTOR: THERMODYNAMIC AND KINETIC SIMULATIONS

Abstrakt

The aim of this work is to investigate the capability of a plasma spouted-bed reactor for the destruction of toxic halogenated compounds. Thermodynamics and kinetics predict shows that the addition of oxygen during the destruction of CCl2F2 will lead to the production of traces of toxic molecules like COCl2, COF2. Simultaneous addition of hydrogen and oxygen to the gas mixture is suitable for the decomposition of CCl2F2. Hydrogen radicals contribute to the formation of HCI , HF and the elimination of toxics (COF2, COCl2). Carbon oxides (CO, C02) are found to be major carbonic products at high temperature whereas HF, HCl, F° and Cl° radicals are major fluorinated and chlorinated species. Analytical results in real experiments on chlorofluorocarbon are compared with theoretical estimates. The analysis of the minor compounds requires GC/MS and capillary electrophoresis experiments in order to detect and identify 10−6 to 1O−9g of substance and control the plasma reactor emissions and operating parameters.
