Abstrakt
Momentum and thermal mixing lengths have been obtained previously from force and heat balances on an eddy considered as a solid sphere until it loses a sufficient fraction of its initial energy. This "eddy drag model" of turbulence is here modified to yield simple analytic expression for temperature and velocity profiles and hence also for heat transfer coefficient. By analogy, the model covers mass transfer. Despite remarkably few empirical coefficients, predictions based on the model are compatible with experimental data.
