Abstrakt

Formation and accelleration of hydrogen flames were studied by optical methods under the fol-lowing global boundary conditions:

− in initially homogeneous and non-flowing mixtures
− in mixtures, flowing over obstacles
− in supersonic flows and
− in a cylindrical compression chamber

An attempt is made to mediate a vivid imagination of the flame structures under various turbulent flow conditions to understand the influence of momentum-, heat- and mass-transport onto flame accelleration, but also to possible quenching effects onto the flame. Hydrogen was used as fuel, because of its high reaction kinetics, which makes the influence of turbulence onto the combustion process more dominant.
