FORCED CONVECTION HEATING OF A LIQUID SPHERE IN A GAS STREAM

Abstrakt

An implicit finite difference scheme was developed to analyze transient thermal boundary layer flow around a liquid sphere moving steadily in an immiscible fluid. Boundary-layer equations are uncoupled at the interface between the gas-phase and the liquid-phase by specifying the boundary conditions. Results obtained at intermediate to high Reynolds numbers (Re) for a wide range of viscosity ratios (μ) show that increasing Re or decreasing μ increases convective heating of the sphere and reduces the time required to attain uniform surface temperature.
