IMPLICATIONS OF MEASURED DROP SIZE DISTRIBUTIONS FOR FULL-CONE SPRAY MODELLING

Abstract

Measurements of mean drop size in the downstream region of some steady full-cone sprays are at odds with current models. Maclnnes and Bracco [6] have argued that the source of the disagreement is probably the modelling of the atomization process. A preliminary examination is made of the changes in the atomization modelling needed to bring agreement with the data. Spray simulations including accounts of atomization, drop collisions, secondary breakup, evaporation and turbulent dispersion are compared with the data. It is found that both the angle and the size of drops must be increased in the atomization models.
