COMPARISON OF PREDICTIONS FOR SHELL-AND-TUBE HEAT EXCHANGERS BY DIFFERENT CONDENSATION HEAT TRANSFER CORRELATIONS

Abstract

The present study reports on the comparisons of the predictions of shell-and-tube heat exchangers by using different condensation heat transfer coefficient correlations and inundation correction factors. Four correlations of heat transfer coefficient for film condensation are tested against the experimental data for a steam surface condenser. Three inundation correction factors have been employed in the simulations.
A quasi-three-dimensional approach is used to predict the fluid flow and heat transfer in shell-and-tube heat exchangers. The governing equations are solved in primitive variable form using a semi-implicit consistent control-volume formulation in which a segregated pressure correction linked algorithm is employed. The modelling is carried out based on the porous media concept using flow, heat and mass transfer resistances.
