EXPERIMENTAL AND NUMERICAL STUDIES OF TWO-PHASE FLOWS

Abstract

The first aim of this paper is to present and compare the different approaches used to study the turbulent droplet dispersion, and the second is to show the influence of the dispersed phase on the flow. Two basic configurations of unsteady turbulent flow (a wake flow and a backward facing step) are studied both experimentally and numerically. Experimental results are compared with those provided by an unsteady deterministic approach and stochastic models. Then a simulation of a spray-cooling application shows the importance of taking into account droplet source terms in the gas phase equations.
