THE ROLE OF SENSOR SYSTEMS IN AUTOMATED MANUFACTURING

Abstract

This paper discusses problems involved in the application of sensors in robot mounting manufacturing systems. Different aspects of sensors and sensor systems are considered in automated production, and measurement of process parameters and machine diagnosis will be outlined. The aim is to give a survey of the latest state of the art and to prepare the ground for future research in sensor thecnology that is more suitable for the automation tasks. It is hoped that this report will make a positive contribution to the development and application of sensors and sensor systems, which pose a serious challenge to high precision engineering and rapid response control system design.
