Abstract

Change in the particle size distribution due to Brownian coagulation has been studied. Analytic solutions for the time dependent size distribution of a coagulating aerosol are obtained based on the assumption that the size distribution during the coagulation process attains or can, at least, be represented by a time-dependent log-normal function. It is shown that regardless of whether the initial distribution is narrow or broad, the spread of the distribution is characterized by approaching a fixed value of the geometric standard deviation.
