FROZEN SIZE PDF RESULTING FROM THE BREAK UP OF AN AIR BUBBLE INJECTED INTO A FULLY DEVELOPED TURBULENT FLOW

Abstract

The frozen bubble size distribution, resulting from the break up of an air bubble injected into a fully developed region of a high Reynolds number turbulent jet has been measured using a Phase Doppler Particle Analyzer (PDPA). It is shown that the shape of the distribution depends on ε and on initial void fraction, α. However, when the bubble's diameter is non-dimensionalized with the Sauter Mean Diameter, D32, of the distribution, the data is shown to collapse onto a single distribution, independent of ε and α.
