ULTRA-FINE ATOMIZATION OF LIQUIDS WITH THE AID OF POROUS MATERIALS
DOI: 10.1615/ICLASS-94.1310
pages 1027-1030
Abstract
The paper contains a theoretical basis, experimental results and description of the process of liquid atomization using a gas flow through porous media, wetted by the liquid. This process produces droplets several microns in size with only a 0.035 MPa pressure drop. The mechanism of such an effective atomization method is not yet established. Ultrasonic wide frequency range noise inside the porous insert is provided with simultaneous flow of gas and liquid through it. It is thought that the ultrasonic effect is the mechanism by which the atomization process is driven. Some industrial applications of porous atomization are described and discussed.
